Process for determining the color of plastic granulate material comprises using an optical remission measurement. Plastic granulate is swollen in a liquid, so that at least a double layer forms an almost closed skin at the liquid surface. Once the surface is still, the remission spectrum is measured using a measurement head. The granulate and liquid are mixed and then the mixture moves up a vertical pipe. A multi-layered granulate forms and leaves the vertical pipe via bore holes in the side of the pipe at the top.
