The closed end of the can ensures that water is drained only from the high pressure peripheral zone of the cyclone and not from the low pressure eye. To accentuate this effect, a choke ring is fixed to near the top of the can, leaving a narrow annular gap to the skirt. Alternatively, it may meet the skirt and have a number of water drain holes. In this case the skirt ends just below the choke whilst the can extends downwards.
