<p>Hexoses and other by-products are removed by yeast fermentation of the xylose-contg. plant hydrolysate before xylose crystallisation. Pref. the acid hydrolysate is adjusted to pH 3.5 - 7 (4-6), hexoses are fermented in presence of CO2 and/or air; yeast is removed and material acidified to pH 2 - 4.5 with H2SO4 and filtered at 50 - 100 degrees C; filtrate is concentrated to 20 - 45 % xylose content, re-filtered purified with adsorbents, evaporated, at pH 2 - 5, to 50 - 70% xylose concn. and crystallised.</p> |
