Electronic data carrier, especially a smart card, comprises a number of electronic components including a display (20) and chip (15). The card is manufactured as two parts (11, 12) which are combined together in a last manufacturing step. One part (11) comprises all the electronic components, while the second part (12) has a recess in which the other part is inserted. An Independent claim is made for a portable data carrier or smart card that is manufactured from two parts.
