A portable digital audio device sized and shaped for handheld operation. The device includes a digital music production system for mixing and editing aud io content acquired by the device. A mixing system is configured to audibly combine two or more audio clips that have been acquired by the device. An editing system is configured to alter an acoustic attribute of an audio clip that has been acquired by the device. The device also may include a portable power supply configured to provide power to the device. A housing at least partially encloses the mixing system, editing system, and power supply.
