<p>An apparatus for controlling the flow of silt in a channel includes a barrier extending across the channel through which channel water can flow, the barrier having a top and a bottom with the top of the barrier being located below the surface of water in the channel, the barrier being movable between a closed position and an open position, in the closed position the bottom of the barrier abuts the bed of the channel so that water flowing into the channel must flow over the barrier and deposit silt in front of the barrier, and in the open position the bottom of the barrier is spaced by a gap from the bed of the channel so that water flowing through the gap will carry away silt deposited adjacent the barrier.</p> |
