The invention relates to novel ionic liquids of general formula (I): in which A<-> represents an optionally substituted and/or anellated five-membered nitrogen heteroaromatic, whose ring nitrogen has been deprotonated, E represents a nitrogen or phosphor atom, R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> represent identical or different groups and respectively a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group, an optionally substituted aromatic or araliphatic group, which contains up to 24 carbon atoms and optionally up to 3 heteroatoms selected from the series oxygen, sulphur and nitrogen and which can be optionally substituted by halogen atoms, with the proviso that at least one of the groups R<1> to R<4> stands for an aliphatic group comprising at least 6 carbon atoms. The invention also relates to a method for the production of said liquids and to their use as solvents or catalysts for chemical reactions, in particular as catalysts for the oligomerisation of isocyanates.
