APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CORRECTING TILT

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for correcting a tilt are provided to shorten a play start time by proceeding a play operation after correcting a tilt at one time, and recover bad tilt correction by monitoring jitter. CONSTITUTION: A tilt driving unit is moved to a center point(300). If the tilt driving unit is placed in the middle of a driving range, focus tracking is optimally adjusted(301). An amount of detected jitter is compared with a first reference value(302). If the jitter amount is larger than the first reference value, tilt correction is executed(303). If the tilt correction before play is completed, the focus tracking is adjusted and an optical disk is played(304-305). It is judged whether a seek operation is generated(306). If so, it stands by until the seek operation is terminated(306-307). An amount of jitter detected from a target track is compared with a second reference value(308). If the jitter amount is larger than the second reference value, tilt correction is executed(309). An amount of jitter periodically detected from the optical disk is compared with a third reference value(310). If the jitter amount is larger than the third reference value, tilt correction is executed(311).
