The present invention relates to a process for preparing ethyl acetate by esterification of acetic acid with an alcohol in the presence of a solid acid catalyst at simultaneous distillation of components. The preparation process is characterized in that acetic acid or acetanhydride, optionally mixtures thereof and ethyl alcohol are brought separately at molar ratio 2 : 1 to 1 : 2.5 and at defined amounts per one catalyst unit into a system distributed into three zones, whereby in the reaction zone reaction takes place simultaneously with distillation separation of components, acetic acid feed is directed inside the reaction zone or above said reaction zone and ethyl alcohol feed takes place also into the reaction zone or underneath said zone. In the upper separation zone volatile mixture is separated and after being cooled down to 5 to 70 degC it is separated into an aqueous and organic phases wherein said organic phase with high content of ethyl acetate is withdrawn and a portion thereof is returned as a reflux back to the system, whereby the ratio between the feed of the starting components to the organic phase reflux flow ranges within 1 : 1 to 1 : 20. Disclosed is also an apparatus for making the above described process. |
