1343341 Electrostatic separation SHERRITT GORDON MINES Ltd 13 July 1971 [4 Aug 1970] 32900/71 Heading B2J An electrostatic precipitator is described for removing finely divided particulate material (down to 0.01 microns) from gas sample streams withdrawn from ore reduction roasters for analysis in gas chromatography units. As shown, the precipitator comprises a gas inlet 87, an ionisation chamber 55 with an ionising wire 60 stretched in horizontal runs between insulator strips 61 (Fig. 3, not shown), a dust collecting chamber 56, a collector chamber 57 having a central plate electrode 67, and an outlet 90 (Fig. 4, not shown), the housing members 45, 46, 49 and central divider 54 being constructed of stainless steel. The electrodes 60 and 67 are connected to an HT source by sparking plug type connections 63, 71 in a nitrogen filled upper housing 77. The housing 31 may be unbolted and slidably separated from the housing 77, electrodes 60 and 67 and plate 54 for emptying collected dust. The path between the ore roaster 11 (Fig. 1, not shown) and gas chromatography unit 12 may include a pre-filter screen 18 and means 38, 39 for back-blowing this screen with an inert gas such as nitrogen. |
