Opening mechanism for spinning apparatus

A textile machine receives a random feed of non-woven fibres to an opening cylinder (3) within a housing. Fibres enter the housing via an inlet, are opened by the cylinder serrations (4) and exhausted (6) by air (D). Part way around the cylinder, foreign bodies are discharged through a secondary outlet (5) to a trap which esp. operates independently of the foreign boy air suction (21) assembly. The air flow guides (21, 22) create a first stationary zone (F). Fibres are exhausted by suction from the opening cylinder. Foreign bodies are removed by suction (E) applied to the secondary (5) outlet. The secondary outlet suction (E) is modified as required by changes to the suction in the first zone (F). Adjustment of the first (F) traps at least 65 per cent of the foreign body particles. Also claimed is a spinning machine incorporating the opening cylinder and a retro-fit kit for prior art spinning machines.
