The invention relates to a communication bus (7; 70, 71, 72; 17) for microwave signal transmission between digital data processing units (2) and to digital data processing devices (1, 2) comprising such a bus. According to invention, means for converting digital data signals into broadband-modulated microwave signals (S1, ..., S4) and frequency multiplexing means (6, 17) for generating frequency-encoded microwave signals (S1, ..., S4; S) and for defining independent communication channels within the microwave waveguide (7; 70, 71, 72) are provided for. Embodiments, among others, relate to: intra-module waveguides (70) for linking IC-chips (210, 211, 220) inside a multi-chip module (21, 22); on-board waveguides (71) for linking IC-chips (21, 210, 211; 22, 220; 23) on a printed circuit or multilayer board (9); inter-module waveguides (72) for linking processing modules (21), memory modules (22) and/or peripheral devices (23); and a hierarchy of such waveguide layers (70, 71, 72). Advantages, among others, are: truly parallel access, high bandwidth, privacy and immunity to electromagnetic interference. <IMAGE>
