PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction nozzle that can lighten an initial movement operation when a suction nozzle body is placed on a floor and moved forward and a vacuum cleaner. SOLUTION: The suction nozzle has driving wheels 26 assisting the movement of the suction nozzle body 23, a motor 31 driving the driving wheels 26, a detection roller 27 detecting the movement direction of the suction nozzle body 23, and a control means controlling the driving of the motor 31 on the basis of detection of the detection roller 27. When the detection roller 27 fails to detect the movement direction of the suction nozzle body 23, the control means rotates the motor 31 in the direction of forward movement of the suction nozzle body 23.
