PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can conduct maintenance of a head even during a recording operation by having a constitution which can be handled nearly equal to a line head. SOLUTION: The inkjet printer 1 has a plurality of recording heads 3 for recording images to a recording medium R arranged in a direction B orthogonal to a transfer direction A of the recording medium R to form images. Each moving mechanism 4 moves the recording head 3e outside of each imaging region 10 into each imaging region 10, and at the same time moves the recording head 3a within each imaging region 10 to the outside of each imaging region 10. On the other hand, a maintenance mechanism maintains each recording head 3a, and moreover separates each recording head 3a from each moving mechanism 4 and fits the separated recording head 3a to an upstream side in a movement direction of each head moving mechanism 4 at the outside of each imaging region 10.
