Wood is seasoned for modified by impregnating by immersion in a 1-2 C hydrocarbon contg. 2,3 or 4 halogen atoms (I) and having b.pt. 35-100 degrees C. Opt. pentachlorophenol, dyestuffs, fire-retardants and/or polymerisable ingredients may be dissolved in (I). The excess impregnating liquid is removed from the wood and the wood steam heated at >= atmos. pressure to remove (I), and if seasoning, to also remove water. Pref. (I) is methylene chloride. |
