PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a cutter driving mechanism which is fit for a compact printer with a small driving source and moves a cutter carriage having a cutter blade mounted with the utilization of a head carriage. SOLUTION: The cutter driving mechanism forms a coupling state of the head carriage 4 and the cutter carriage 12 with the use of a movably supported engagement lever 41. The engagement lever 41 is returned to an initial position with the use of a leaf spring 43 as a different elastic member from the engagement lever 41. The engagement lever 41 has a strength and a rigidity to fully stand a load of the cutter carriage 12, and the leaf spring 43 is enough to have minimum elastic characteristics necessary for holding the coupling state and returning the engagement lever 41 to the initial position. A load acting when the engagement lever is moved against the leaf spring 43 whereby a secure coupling state can be formed is made small. The cutter driving mechanism fit to be loaded on the compact printer with the small driving source as a head carriage driving source can be realized accordingly. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
