PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recorder which can prevent blank dots by avoiding a continuous forced cleaning and preventing an invasion of bubbles into a recording head. SOLUTION: The inkjet recorder has the recording head 1 where nozzle openings 36 are set, a cap member 8 for sealing nozzle openings 36 of the recording head 1, and a pump 9 for cleaning by applying a negative pressure to nozzle openings 36 in a state in which the nozzle openings 36 are sealed by the cap member 8. The cleaning includes a plurality of cleaning modes having different negative pressures at a suction operation time. After the forced cleaning A with the highest negative pressure is carried out, cleanings B, C and D with lower negative pressures than the pressure of the forced cleaning A are carried out before a next forced cleaning A is carried out.
