<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which can inexpensively and correctly manage an ink remaining amount, and to provide a method for managing an ink consumption. <P>SOLUTION: Information on the ink consumption of the recorder which records to a recording medium by discharging ink supplied from a detachable ink tank out of a recording head on the basis of recoding data received from a host is stored in a storage medium. The ink consumption is counted, and the ink consumption information stored in the storage medium is updated by the counted ink consumption. When it is detected that the ink tank is separated, the presence of a possibility that the ink tank is replaced is notified to the host. When information on an ink amount of the ink tank is received from the host as the result of the notification, the ink consumption information obtained by the updating is changed and managed on the basis of the received information on the ink amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
