PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for cutting off a vulcanized tread member, by which the tread member can be efficiently and properly cut off at a proper position by using a simple structure. SOLUTION: When the vulcanized tread member 1 continuously vulcanized and formed into a belt shape is carried from the cut-off position and is cut off such that a tread pattern at the trailing edge part matches with a tread pattern at the leading edge to be joined with the trailing edge, a laser displacement sensor 20 is fixed to the same position as the position of a cutting-off device 30 in order to detect the position of the pattern to be cut off by measuring the undulation of the pattern block of the tread member 1 being carried, and in order to cut off the tread member 1 at that position.
