PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for preventing the strength of a hydrogen permeable membrane from becoming insufficient at the time of permeation of hydrogen through the membrane. SOLUTION: A hydrogen extractor 10 is equipped with a hydrogen permeable membrane 20, reinforcing members 34 and 36 and flow channel members 30 and 32. A flow channel of a modified gas containing hydrogen is formed between the hydrogen permeable membrane 20 and the flow channel member 30. A flow channel of a purge gas mixed with hydrogen extracted from the modified gas by the hydrogen permeable membrane 20 is formed between the hydrogen permeable membrane 20 and the flow channel member 32. The hydrogen permeable membrane 20 is equipped with a plurality of catalyst layers 24 and the extraction operation of hydrogen is mainly performed in a region where the catalyst layer 24 is formed. Since a degree of the solid solution of a hydrogen atom is suppressed in the hydrogen permeable membrane 20, membrane strength is ensured sufficiently. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
