PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a size, to eliminate a strange noise, to provide excellent durability, and to make non-feed and double feed hardly generated. SOLUTION: This paper sheet feeder is provided with a sheet feed roller 4 contacting with a sheet member on a bottom plate to feed the sheet member, and a separation member 5 having a sloped face 5a abutting to a front end of the sheet member fed by the feed roller 4, and a plurality of grooves 14 along a roller axial direction are formed along a circumferential direction of the roller 4 in an outer peripheral face of the roller 4. Sheet feed-conveying force for the sheet member is increased by the grooves 14 to enhance separation performance for the sheet member. Since paper powder generated from the sheet member and deposited on the outer peripheral face of the roller gets into the grooves 14 of the roller 4, the roller 4 is prevented from being slipped affected by the paper powder.
