FIELD: jewelry. SUBSTANCE: method involves placing jewelry stones in finely dispersed cobalt oxide powder with lower and higher oxide forms of cobalt used in the ratio of 1:1, mixed with zinc oxide, at cobalt oxide to zinc oxide ratio of 1:(0.25-3); providing thermal treatment in oxidizing atmosphere at temperature of 900-1,250 C. Method is used for coloring of colorless and pale blue sapphire, colorless topaz, quartz.
