PURPOSE: Provided are C1-C4 alcohol insoluble extract of Rhus verniciflua Chinese Sumac, polysaccharides separated therefrom, methods for extracting and separating the same and a composition containing the same. The composition is used for improving liver function. CONSTITUTION: C1-C4 alcohol insoluble fraction of Rhus verniciflua Chinese Sumac is obtained from the water extract of Rhus verniciflua Chinese Sumac, wherein the alcohol is selected from linear or branched methanol, ethanol or butanol. A composition containing C1-C4 alcohol insoluble extract of Rhus verniciflua Chinese Sumac and polysaccharides separated therefrom improves damaged liver cells, liver protein synthesis, hangover removal, and the like.
