FIELD: joining of refractory metals, for example rods with different cross section after their plastic deformation such as rotary forging. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of compressing end faces of samples with effort not exceeding yield limit of welded metal but no less than 0.5 of its value; before compression introducing to welding zone powder of similar metal with mean grain size being less than that of welded metal after primary recrystallization; heating joint until recrystallization temperature of refractory metal; realizing isothermic soaking during time period providing realization of primary recrystallization process and being no more than 30 - 60 min. Method provides high-strength joint, no less than 80% of ultimate bending strength of monolithic metal, sustaining of small-grain recrystallization structure allowing to perform further plastic deformation of metal.
