摘要 PURPOSE: A method and a device for generating switchable second harmonic wave by using a banana shaped liquid crystal-xylene system are provided to avoid the complicatedness of non-organic crystal growing process and the growth control as well as the high expense by using banana-shaped liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION: A device for generating switchable second harmonic wave by using a banana shaped liquid crystal-xylene system includes a light source generating infrared rays of wavelength of 1064nm from an Nd-YAG laser. The light passes through a pin hole and an interference filter having a wavelength of 1064nm. The light is reflected against by first and second infrared ray mirrors. The light is reflected against by third and fourth infrared ray mirrors after passing through first and second lenses(L1,L2). The infrared rays of a predetermined direction are split by passing through a polarizer and pass through a banana-shaped liquid crystal-xylene sample. By passing the banana-shaped liquid crystal cells, the infrared rays of 1064nm generates second harmonic wave since the frequency of the light becomes double and the wavelength thereof becomes half.
