The seat belt indicator lights respond to sensors in the seat belt lock, with one light for each seat belt in the vehicle. A unit (2) on the dashboard has lights (10,12,14,16) laid out to mimic the layout of seats in the vehicle. In addition a row of lights, in parallel with the dashboard lights, is set behind the top of the windscreen, so the lights are visible from outside the vehicle.
