<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately pick up an image at all the time by accurately grasping a timing to exchange an illumination lamp in an image pickup device which requires illuminations by the illumination lamp. <P>SOLUTION: In an image pickup device 20 provided with an illumination lamp 21 for illuminating a surface of a work W and an image pickup means 24 for picking up an image of reflected light from the work at least, the image pickup device is provided with a lightness calculating part 26 for calculating lightness of the reflected light, an exchange necessity judging part 27 for judging whether or not the exchange of the illumination lamp 21 is required based upon the lightness of the reflected light and an alarm part 28 for announcing that the illumination lamp 21 is to be exchanged based upon the judgement in the exchange necessity judging part 27.
