PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp capable of miniaturizing an igniter by making starting high-pressure pulse voltage not more than 10 kV, in accordance with a request for miniaturization of optical instruments and a request for a further reduction of noise at a control circuit. SOLUTION: With the discharge lamp (A1) composed of a sealing vessel with sealing parts (3a) (3b) set in protrusion from both sides of a luminous tube part (1), an anode electrode (2a) and a cathode electrode (2b) with ends welded to metal foils (4a) (4b) buried in the sealing parts (3a) (3b) and the other ends arranged in opposition inside the luminous tube part (1), and outer lead bars (5a) (5b) with ends welded to the metal foils and the other ends led outside, a main trigger line (6a) connected to the outer lead bar (5a) at the anode electrode (2a) side is made extended outside the luminous tube part (1) and at the same time, the tip of the main trigger line (6a) is made arranged outside the luminous tube part (1).
