PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the operation of a large amount of data on a recording medium. SOLUTION: In a method for maintaining the recording medium by generating, editing or reading a data log related to the content or usage of a data item stored or to be stored on the recording medium, data items are deleted or recommendations for deletion are provided on the basis of log data from the recording medium.
