PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform amplitude modulation and frequency modulation of a lamp current in some cases with a small cost. SOLUTION: This lighting system is provided with a direct current voltage supply source switched by a converter frequency and supplying a lighting voltage UB, an inverter supplied with the lighting voltage UB and having output terminals J1 and J2, and a high pressure discharge lamp connected to the output terminals J1 and J2 of the inverter and having at least one of an acoustic resonance frequency; and outputs a lamp voltage UL from the output terminals J1 and J2 of the inverter.
