PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for an authenticator in a group to safely transmit inviter's reliability established in the group to potential group members. SOLUTION: Invitations are issued to persons to be invited and the authenticator. The authenticator prepares a challenge key and a challenge value and transmits the challenge value to each invited person. The invited person reproduces the challenge key, derives a response value from the challenge value by using the challenge key, and sends the response value to the authenticator. The authenticator compares the response value with an expected value, and when both values match with each other, admits the invited person to the group. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
