PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device capable of reducing the number of key strokes for Japanese and alphabetic character input even with drastically reduced number of keys, easy to learn key positions and easy to operate quickly. SOLUTION: The character input device is characterized in that Japanese characters, numerals and symbols. Alphabetic characters, numerals and symbols are divided into two groups, a group A for multi-stroke input, and a group B for single-stroke input. The device is provided with a display part for displaying a plurality of characters in the group A, and a selecting means for selecting one of the displayed characters on the display part.
