<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data distribution system for stably distributing streams through scalable data compression. <P>SOLUTION: The data distribution system processes received data into blocks in the unit of a prescribed time, divides the data into a plurality of bands, applies encoding compression to each band, and produces a basic sub block indispensable to data reproduction and a plurality of extended sub blocks contributing to the improvement of the reproduction quality. In streaming distribution, the data distribution system transmits remaining extended sub blocks within a time period for transmitting the same data block in a transmission available timing but quits the transmission of the remaining extended sub blocks when the transmission timing of the succeeding data blocks has already come, and starts transmission of the basic sub block of the succeeding data block. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
