<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for detecting an obstacle for accurately identifying even when an object is a three-dimensional object or a planar object even when movements such as pitching take place in a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A visual position of an imaging camera is set to a first position, the imaging camera produces a first imaged image (steps S1, 2), the visual position of the imaging camera is moved vertically from the first position and set to a second position, the imaging camera generates a second imaged image (steps S5, 6), a change in a longitudinal image size of the object resulting from the movement of the visual position from the first position to the second position is detected (step S10) so that whether the object is a three-dimensional object or a planar object is identified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
