PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform determination as efficiently as possible in a method for determining a drive unit for medium inspection by which the drive unit for medium inspection determines whether the drive unit for medium inspection normally detects a defect by inspecting a medium in which defect information representing the defective state of the medium is known. SOLUTION: In this determining method of the drive unit for the medium inspection, whether defect information representing a defective state of the medium is provided to the drive unit for the medium inspection is determined, an area of the medium to be inspected is determined on the basis of the defect information, the defect information obtained by the inspection of the determined area of the medium by the drive unit for medium inspection is compared with the provided defect information, and whether the drive unit for medium inspection is suitable or unsuitable (or normal or abnormal) is determined on the basis of the comparison results.
