PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording medium of a magnetic domain expandable reproducing system improved in tracking performance and reproduc ing characteristics. SOLUTION: In the magneto-optical recording medium of the magnetic domain expandable reproducing system, a sample servo system is used for the tracking servo of laser light to be used for recording/reproducing information, and a data area is provided behind a servo area in a tracking direction. This, substrate forms of respective areas are separately designed such that a servo signal to be generated from the servo area and a recording mark to be formed in the data area can be optimal, respectively. As a result, the magneto-optical recording medium of the magnetic domain expandable reproducing system improved in the tracking performance and the reproducing characteristics is obtained.
