<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape tension detector in which the behavior of a tape under running is accurately evaluated by accurately detecting a breadthwise tension distribution during tape running. <P>SOLUTION: In the tape tension detector for detecting the tension of a tape 1 under running, the tape tension detector is composed of a supporting stand 10, a plurality of leaf springs 11 fixing one end onto the supporting stand 10 and parallel provided corresponding to the breadthwise direction of the tape 1, strain gauges 12 mounted on the respective leaf springs 11 and tape tension detection rollers 13 respectively held on the tops of the respective leaf springs to be freely abutted on the tape 1 under running.
