PURPOSE: An IC device having multiple communication modes and an operating method thereof are provided to offer the IC device capable of being operated in all communication modes and recognizing a connection state with an external device when connecting to the external device. CONSTITUTION: The IC device(100) includes the multiple communication modes, the first and the second data lines, and a transceiver(110) connecting to the first and the second data lines. A voltage control circuit(140) judges that the external device(200) is connected to the IC device, and controls the voltage of the first data line according to a judgment result. When the external device is connected to the IC device, the voltage control circuit controls the voltage of the first data line in order to prevent the external device from recognizing the IC device for a constant time.
