PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus and an image pickup method in which a natural picked-up image expanded in a D range is obtained. SOLUTION: The image pickup apparatus is provided with an image pickup means for obtaining two source image signals by temporally continued exposures, an image processing means for generating a sum signal of the two source image signals as a first image signal and any one of the source image signals as a second image signal, and an image composing means for generating a synthetic image from the first and second image signals.
