PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device for reducing the light of a back light with a simple component configuration when displaying is not required. SOLUTION: When the video display of an incorporated TV tuner 2 is selected by a user, a video signal changeover switch 3 displays the image of the video signal of the TV tuner 2 on a liquid crystal panel 6. A control signal for indicating full lighting is transmitted from a microcomputer 4 to a dimming circuit 7, the circuit 7 outputs a 100 duty lighting control signal in the case of lighting to a light irradiating part 8, and the part 8 performs full lighting. When external input video display is selected, the switch 3 is changeovered into an external input side. Based on a Hi/Lo signal concerning whether a connector is inserted to a video input terminal 1 or not, full lighting is processed in the same way in the case of insertion. When the connector is not inserted, a light reduction control signal is transmitted from the microcomputer 4 to the dimming circuit 7, the circuit 7 outputs a lighting on/off control signal to the light irradiating part 8, and the part 8 performs duty lighting with an on/off timing signal.
