PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary magnetic head type device having a reproduction system capable of obtaining a stable and good signal independent of the kind of tape or the wear of head. SOLUTION: A magnetic tape discriminating circuit 14 for discriminating the kind of magnetic tape and a control signal producing circuit 12 for producing a control signal to control a gain of a reproduction amplifier circuit 501 are furnished at the device fixing side, and a decoder circuit 6 for discriminating the control signal transmitted from the control signal producing circuit 12 is furnished on a rotary drum. By the control signal producing circuit 12, the control signal is produced in accordance with the discrimination result of the magnetic tape discriminating circuit 14, and the transmitted control signal is discriminated by the decoder circuit 6 to control the gain of the reproduction amplifier circuit 501.
