1384315 Purifying waste liquids PRAM CORP 7 April 1972 [13 April 1971] 16200/72 Heading C1C A process for purifying liquids containing contaminants (e.g. dyes and metals), and preparing a concentrate of the contaminants comprises (a) passing the liquid through a first adsorbent to produce a partially purified effluent, (b) passing the partially purified effluent through a second adsorbent to produce a purified liquid, (c) regenerating the first adsorbent with solvent (e.g. methanol), (d) regenerating the second adsorbent, e.g. with caustic solution followed by an acid rinse and (e) passing the effluent from step (d) through the first adsorbent. The effluent from step (c) may be concentrated by distillation. The pH of the liquid in step (a) may be 3-5. The adsorbents may be macroreticular resins, the first adsorbent having an average pore diameter and dipole moment smaller than the second adsorbent.
