PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost and weight of an image reader of a flat bed system by eliminating the need for original platen glass and pressure plate and further to facilitate the vertical installation thereof. SOLUTION: The rear surface side of the original 5 is held on an original holding plate 2 and while its read position is energized by a curved original energizing sheet 12 supported by a reading section 4, the original image is read by the reading section 4.
