PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sequential biaxially stretched polyester film having no cut by rubbing or foreign matter by simply removing the surface stain of the roll of a longitudinal stretching apparatus in a manufacturing process for the sequential biaxially stretched polyester film in a short time. SOLUTION: In manufacturing the sequential biaxially stretched polyester film by successively stretching a non-stretched sheet longitudinally and laterally in the longitudinal stretching apparatus having preheating, stretching and cooling processes constituted of a roll group, the low-molecular-weight substance peeled from the non-stretched film and bonded to the surface of the roll group of the longitudinal stretching apparatus is removed. In this cleaning method for the roll of the longitudinal stretching apparatus, the non-stretched sheet of which both surfaces are continuously coated with mist like water drops is passed through the longitudinal stretching apparatus.
