PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid ink feed system which can correctly discern ink sticks. SOLUTION: The solid ink feed system for a phase change ink printer 10 includes a solid ink feed channel formed therein, and a feed channel key. The channel key obstructs the solid ink stick 30 not to be completely inserted in the feed channel or obstructs the ink stick 30 not to move along the feed channel, so long as the ink stick 30 has no key element 84 corresponding to the feed channel key. The solid ink stick 30 is formed of a three-dimensional ink stick body having the key element which extends along a surface of the ink stick body through a rear part of the ink stick body.
