PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an epoxidized polyphenylene ether which is useful for a polymer alloy. SOLUTION: In a process for producing the epoxidized polyphenylene ether, a polyphenylene ether having a weight average molecular weight of 10,000-80,000 is reacted with an epoxy compound having two or more epoxy groups in the molecule while maintaining the polyphenylene ether in a solid state.
