PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out low suction degree-of-superheat operation, while keeping safety of the compressor operation. SOLUTION: An expansion valve opening operation section 21 monitors a current discharge degree of superheat based on a discharge piping temperature from a second temperature sensor 19 and a high pressure from a second pressure sensor 20. Then, when a state of the temperature lower than a first set degree of heating continues for specific seconds or more, the target value of suction degree of superheat is increased by a specific value. Contrarily, when the temperature is higher than the second set degree of heating (> the first set degree of heating), an original value is restored. In this manner, it is precisely detected that the compressor 11 is set to be in a wet state for increasing the target value to a safe one, thus eliminating the need for continuously giving the degree of safety to the target value. Therefore, the operation state in the compressor 11 is kept safe and the low suction degree-of-superheat operation is carried out. As a result, a water-side heat exchanger 14 is effectively utilized and miniaturized for reducing costs, and further high efficiency is achieved in an air conditioner. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
