<p>The casting is effected via tundishes, which are fed from several ladles and which have casting pipes reaching into the casting mould, from which the cast profile is being continually removed. When turndishes require changeover the melt level in the mould is lowered to below the opening of the feed pipe and is only allowed to rise again when melt is flowing again from the tundish. The melt level is pref. manipulated by slowing down the casting removal rate. The method prevent the ingress of metal into the casting pipe before metal flows through it, thus preventing its salification and consequent blockage.</p> |
