1284483 Waveguides LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS GmbH 30 Jan 1970 [1 Feb 1969] 4719/70 Heading HlW A flexible waveguide of non-circular crosssection-e.g. elliptical or rectangular-and having a non-constant wall thickness around its periphery, has its internal cross-section widened, by insertion of a mandrel, over a distance of about one wavelength from its end, whereby a predetermined internal cross-section is obtained at the end of the guide, permitting the attachment thereto of waveguide fittings of a standardized size. The widened end portion forms a tapered impedance transformer between the fitting and the waveguide. The mandrel, after insertion to widen the waveguide, may be used as a holder for a device producing grooves in the waveguide for the attachment of the fitting. |
