FLEXIBLE CORRELATION AND QUEUEING IN CDMA COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

A programmable correlator (114) for a communication system (100) includes an input queue (113) coupled with an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) (109, 110, 111). The input queue (113) includes a random access memory (RAM) wherein sampled data streams from the ADC (109, 110, 111) are written into the RAM. The input queue (113) has two banks of memory of width 2M. A flexible complex correlator (140) is operable on M samples. The correlator (140) is coupled to read M complex samples out of 2M samples from the input queue (113). A pseudo-noise (PN) crossbar unit (143) operates to rotate a generated PN code to match a rotation of the input queue data in the complex correlator (140).
